Tall Ships Welcome Cruise
Goodtime I, 101 W. Shoreline Dr. (Jackson St. Pier), Sandusky

The deck of the Goodtime I is the perfect vantage point to watch the parade of tall ships entering the harbor at Put-in-Bay. The Goodtime I will leave the dock in Sandusky at 12 pm and arrive in the harbor around 2 pm. The tall ships are scheduled to arrive at between 2 and 4 pm. Light appetizers will be served and drinks can be purchased from the bar. Lee Murdock will provide entertainment with songs and stories of the Great Lakes. After the tall ships arrive, the boat will dock for about two hours so you can enjoy the festivites on Put-in-Bay before returning to the Goodtime I dock in Sandusky.

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the major military events of the War of 1812 that took place in the Great Lakes. Tall Ships will dock in the communities of Catawba Island, Port Clinton, Kelleys Island, Middle Bass Island, Put-in-Bay, and in several Canadian ports including Pelee Island, Kingsville, Amhurstburg, and Windsor. There will be a Tall Ship Parade on Sept 1 and a re-enactment of the Battle of Lake Erie featuring the Tall Ships on Sept 2.

The original Niagara was built in 1813 during the War of 1812. Under the command of Commodore Perry, she was a key part of the American victory over the British in the Battle of Lake Erie. This replica was built in 1988 and includes some of the timbers from the original ship. Touring a tall ship is an exciting experience that gives an appreciation of history, the adventure of sailing and what life was like for the crews that sailed these great old sailing ships. It’s a fun and educational activity the whole family can enjoy.

Sister ships, “Pathfinder” and “Playfair,” are operated by a summer youth sail training program on the Great Lakes. This program is one of the very few sail training programs where all of the crew except for the captain are in high school (13-19 years old). “Pathfinder” was the original vessel of Toronto Brigantine, a charitable organization founded in 1962 to develop leadership, discipline, and citizenship in a maritime environment and believed that exposure to the challenge of the sea-going lifestyle could benefit young people. “Playfair” joined Toronto Brigantine in 1974. She was christened in 1973 by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and is the only Canadian ship to be commissioned by a reigning monarch. Advanced tickets available.

The Battle of Lake Erie Living History Group will be present to portray the American Marines, Soldiers, and Militia who fought on Perry’s ships as Marines in the Battle. These volunteers will be demonstrating period drills, tactics, and weapons, as well as setting up a period encampment. They will also be available to discuss the role of Marines in the War of 1812 and what life was like for the brave individuals who served their young Nation in one of the War’s most pivotal battles.

The official ceremony commemorating the Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial Celebration on the actual anniversary date of the naval battle. Activities include a wreath lying at the actual battle site, the Battle of Lake Erie Commemoration Parade will start in downtown Put-in-Bay featuring Parks Canada re-enactors, and Native American, and First Nation representatives, regional marching bands and invited guests. The official commemoration ceremony will begin on the steps of the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial following the parade. The President of the United States, the Secretary of Navy, and other foreign dignitaries have been invited as guest speakers. Visit website for the latest information.
