The Brig Niagara needs you!
This Saturday, March 16th, will see the removal of Niagara’s winter cover. Dozens of staff and volunteers will congregate to remove the wood and canvas structure, which protects the wooden ship from snow and ice during Erie’s long inclement winters. Niagara’s annual emergence from her cocoon marks the beginning of up-rig, the month and a half period during which the ship’s masts, spars, sails, and rig are reassembled for another sailing season, after a winter of being overhauled indoors. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with the Niagara’s sailing program should report to the Erie Maritime Museum’s north entrance, at the gate nearest the ship, at 8:30 AM.
