Founder’s Day at Put-in-Bay will again be held in DeRivera Park on Sunday, June 16 from 11 am-5 pm. This fun, family-focused island event celebrates the founding of Put-in-Bay by Hispanic merchant Jose DeRivera. Founder’s Day will feature entertainment by the Rent Party Band playing popular tunes in a fair-type atmosphere. At 2:30 pm the Island Antique Car Parade will entertain young and old with antique cars and candy.
Many island and local groups will also participate in the festivities. The PiB EMS is offering ambulance tours as well as the Mini Life Flight ride for kids. The PiB Fire Department will feature a new and antique fire engine. Starting a new tradition, Sister Lucille and the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church will offer pulled pork sandwiches and corn; but leave room for the yummy strawberry shortcake offered by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. After lunch, you can search for the next addition to your family with our friends from the Ottawa County Humane Society and Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary. Don’t forget your purse or wallet, as many local crafters and jewelry makers will be selling their wares as well.
In the case of inclement weather, the PiB Chamber of Commerce will supply a large tent with ample space for all vendors.
We are continually searching for additional local groups and crafters to participate in this event. Tables are provided free of charge. Mainland vendors are responsible for transportation to the island and to DeRivera Park from the ferry docks. Please check www.millerferry.com and www.jet-express.com for schedules and fares. Electrical supply can be provided to your table with prior reservation. Tables will be available for setup no later than 10 am.
The PiB Chamber of Commerce and Founder’s Day Committee appreciate your support of this revitalized event. Please reply by e-mail to Kim Steuber Morrison with confirmation if you will be a participating vendor in this event.
