Michigan School Group to Visit South Bass Island

South Bass Island will host, for the second year in a row, Allen Park Middle School 6th Graders from Allen Park, MI (just southwest of Detroit). They will arrive on Friday, September 27, 2013. The group is notable because it is comprised of 236 students and 46 adults.  This translates into six full tour trains.  Last year the group visited in October and had great weather. This year they had to move it up due to the government sequestration which will cause an earlier shut-down at the Perry Monument and Visitor’s Center.  However, it looks like they will still have fabulous weather!  While the Allen Park students and chaperones are here, they will visit the Column and Perry’s Monument, and they will witness a black powder demonstration. They will also visit Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center to tour Perry’s Cave, the Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay, the War of 18 Holes Miniature Golf, and do some gemstone mining. They will eat lunch at DeRivera Park.  Please welcome the Allen Park travelers when you see them!
