Put-in-Bay School News – by Steve Poe, Superintendent, for December 2013
The Harvest Dinner on November 8 was a huge success! Over $2,700 was raised to benefit the Gustav Heineman Scholarship. We want to thank everyone who donated food and especially want to recognize the efforts of Woody Widmar who worked in the kitchen for two days preparing the delicious turkey meal.
After a Quiz Bowl competition on November 14 and a couple more victories, our Quiz Bowl team remains in second place in the north division with a 7 – 1 record. There are a total of eight schools in the north division. Good luck to Zoly Urge, Anna Rence, Elliot Kowalski, Meredith Engel, Carter Pugh, and Sophia Schroeder when they compete in the finals of the Quiz Bowl League on December 5th.
Our basketball team has their first game of the season on Monday, December 2nd at Genoa High School. Our first home game is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th against Cardinal Stritch High School. Two days later and for the first time in school history, Put-in-Bay High School will play Beaver Island High School (Michigan). This game is scheduled for an 11:15 am tipoff on Monday, December 9th and can be seen “live” on the internet at PortClintonRadio.com.
Coach Schuffenecker returns a number of talented players from last year’s 13 – 2 squad, including seniors Casey Pippert-Ladd, Cody Porche, Arthur Wolf, and Madeline Pugh. Go Panthers!
Santa Claus will be visiting Put-in-Bay School for our annual community holiday party on Sunday, December 15th. He will have gifts for the kids and desserts for everyone. Come join the fun!
Our annual holiday concert is scheduled for Tuesday, December 17th at 7:00pm. Music teacher Gay Pippert-Ladd has grades K – 4 performing “Littlest Reindeer” and grades 5 – 8 students performing “Santa’s Holiday Hoedown.” Our students have been very busy this year, performing at the Bicentennial Celebration and, most recently, performing at the Senior Center for our veterans on November 11th. Good job Put-in-Bay School choir!
We would like to advise all parents to keep their telephones close by on mornings when there is “questionable” weather. This year we will announce delays and closings via our new instant messaging system. Speaking of weather, we plan to build an ice rink on the basketball/tennis court again this winter. Hopefully, this winter, we will have great ice for both fishermen and skaters!
School will dismiss at 12:30 on Friday, December 20th. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
