“School Messenger” Now Available to All Island Community Members

Put-in-Bay School News – by Steve Poe, Superintendent

Once again this year our school will utilize “School Messenger” to inform parents of important announcements, such as school closings or delays. We will now make this available to everyone in our community. If you would like to be notified by text or voice message of school closings or delays, announcements of events, etc., please contact the school at 419-285-3614 to sign up.

Cross-country and volleyball seasons came to a close last month. Both teams enjoyed some success, but more importantly, learned the valuable lessons that athletic competition offers.
Now that November is upon us, basketball season is here! Coach Craig Schuffenecker will coach both the Jr. High and High School co-ed teams. We welcome back Mackinac Island on

December 4th and 5th to open the season, and we look forward to a good turn-out to cheer on the Panthers!
Work has been completed on the outdoor basketball / tennis court. Four new baskets were installed on a court that was widened by ten feet and can now accommodate two full courts. In addition, a curb was built and a drain system installed in order for the court to be converted into an ice rink in the winter. This new court was built with concrete, replacing the asphalt court that was marred with cracks and weeds. With the outdoor lights that were installed a couple years ago, we look forward to seeing a lot of activity on the courts, day and evenings, twelve months a year, for years to come. Community members are encouraged use the courts when school is not in session.

On Friday, November 6th from 5:00 to 7:00pm, the Annual Harvest Dinner will take place at Tipper’s Lounge. We encourage everyone to enjoy a turkey dinner with us and support the Gustav Heineman Scholarship. Dinner prices are the following: Adults, $10; Senior Citizens, $8; Children 12 and under, $5. A special thanks in advance to Woody Widmar for all his time and effort in making dinner for us, and to Tip Niese for allowing us to use his restaurant.

On Wednesday, November 11th at 11:15am, Put-in-Bay students will honor our veterans. A student-led program will take place in the school’s gymnasium.  All veterans are asked and encouraged to attend, along with the public. Thank you, veterans, for your service to our country.
