In an outstanding example of community service and friendship, John Domer (Put-in-Bay Volunteer Fire Department member and Island Postmaster) executed ingenuity while rescuing a Royal Automobile Club 100-year anniversary hat from an ice shelf below a steep cliff. The valuable hat was swept away by a strong wind gust yesterday while photographer Berni Steinbach was on assignment for PiBDaily.com. The first attempt with an iron ice block tong failed, but a second try with a fishing pole and lure delivered success.
