The Centennial Youth Maritime Explorers Day-camp will be held on June 19, 2016. In celebration of the Centennial of the National Park Service, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial offers a new program–a Youth Maritime Explorers day camp. The day-long event will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 with activities scheduled from 11am until 4pm on the grounds of the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.
Activities are set to include living history programs featuring National Park Service rangers, 1812 sailors, and pirates or privateers. There will also be environmental learning stations featuring The Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the NPS Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about “Sailing through the Ages” through interactive exhibits of sailing vessels. Performances by steel drummers from the Toledo School of Art will be offered as well. A visit to the observation deck of Perry’s Monument and a tour of the Brig Niagara will be highlights of the day.
Financial assistance may be available for transportation from your location, ferry service, island transportation, and lunch.
