Put-in-Bay Sailors Prepare for Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race Starting July 16th

S/V Integrity USA 762S/V Integrity, USA 762, is owned by Captain Tony Hubbard and will be crewed in the Bayview Yacht Club’s Port Huron to Mackinac race by family and friends, including Jake and Jason Hubbard, John Bergan, Rick Graet, and Cam Borkowski.  Integrity, out of Sandusky, Ohio, is sailing for Eagle Creek Sailing Club.  The racing team has a long history of I-LYA participation out of Put-in-Bay.

Integrity is a classic 1960’s John Alden designed yawl, manufactured by Halmatic Ltd., in the UK. With mahogany coach top and teak accents assembled by Mollich of Denmark in 1961, she certainly catches your eye (old and classy). There were 56 of these classically produced boats registered in the Challenger class between 1960 and 1964. Today, many of the Challenger class sailboats are still comfortably sailing with private owners and in charter fleets. Originally, they were raced and sailed along the east coast and UK however, a few Challengers found their way to the Great Lakes.

Bayview Yacht Club, founded in 1915, is widely regarded as the premier sailing club in Michigan and the Midwest.  Located on the Detroit River near the mouth of Lake St. Clair, it has been hosting the Bayview Mackinac Race since 1925 and has more than 1,000 members.  For details, visit: www.byc.com.  Information for this article was provided by the Hubbard family.
