“We Have Met the Enemy” Being Filmed in Newport, Rhode Island

Brig Niagara Put-in-Bay(New York, New York – 30 June 2016) Executive Producer Scott L. Reda (The Blue and the Gray,
WWII in HD, Vietnam in HD) and his award-winning Lou Red Productions are scheduled to
continue production of We Have Met the Enemy, a documentary film about Commodore Oliver
Hazard Perry and the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie. Reda is producing the film with Executive
Producers John Kuzdale and Mark Nixon and will begin filming at various sites in Newport, RI,
Perry’s home during the War of 1812.

“Rhode Island’s Oliver Hazard Perry was perhaps America’s greatest naval hero. It’s exciting to
be part of the team that is bringing his story to life for modern viewers,” Reda remarked.
“Perry’s victory on Lake Erie essentially saved this country and decided the fate of the whole
continent.”

With great detail, We Have Met the Enemy will delve into the life of 27-year-old Perry and how
he overcame incredible challenges after leaving Newport to construct the US fleet and lead his
men to victory against the British. After receiving the British surrender, Perry famously wrote to
General William Henry Harrison: “We have met the enemy and they are ours.”
Mark Nixon stated, “Perry’s War of 1812 odyssey began and ended in Newport. Many of the
sailors in the Battle of Lake Erie were from Rhode Island, where Perry was also born and is now
buried. Newport and its rich maritime history are a big part of the Perry story.”
