Put-in-Bay in the far north of the Seneca / Wyandot / Put-in-Bay / Sandusky / Crawford High School Quiz Bowl League territory, Buckeye Central in the south, and St. Wendelin in the west hosted the matches opening the League’s 2016-2017 regular season Tuesday, September 20.
While not strictly geographic, the 18 teams are divided into three divisions, North, Central, and South. The recent matches saw Old Fort and St. Joseph Central Catholic in the North Division, Columbian in the Central Division, and host, Buckeye Central, in the South Division, winning all three of their matches. Ross and Clyde in the North Division, Seneca East and Hopewell-Loudon in the Central Division, and Mohawk and Carey in the South Division each lost only one of their three matches and go into their next matches with a 2-1 record.
The six teams in each division play each other and also across divisions. The next matches will be played in October in Tiffin at Bridges, Calvert, and Tiffin Middle School.
In the state leagues and tournaments send their winners to Ohio Academic Competition (OAC) regionals in the spring. The winner and the runner-up at the regional level advance to finals in Columbus. The local league will be sending its three division winners and the tournament winner to regionals.
