On May 15, 2001, Toledo Blade staff writer Steve Murphy reported, “The nonprofit park board that owns one of South Bass Island’s last wooded areas has a long-term plan for the site that includes nature trails, picnic tables, and a building to house equipment and summer employees. But a citizens’ group is fighting the DeRivera Park trustees in court, arguing that a park would spoil the 18-acre Cooper’s Woods.”
The October 2016 issue of The Put-in-Bay Gazette includes a last-page writing which claims the park preservation issue rises again. While the article includes no byline, it does weigh in on the side of the citizens group against any change in the environment. It also announces a scheduled meeting of the DeRivera Park Trust on 14 October 2016, at 5pm in the Put-in-Bay Town Hall.
