The Put-in-Bay Volunteer Fire Department has improved its ability to handle emergency situations on South Bass Island. According to firefighter Doug Wilhelm, the department has purchased a brand new thermal imaging camera and installed it on the first line pumper. A 1996 engine has been bought from the Sandusky Fire Department and is receiving equipment upgrades.
PiB VFD has served one pancake breakfast this year, a second is planned for February 19, with additional breakfasts in March and April. A steak roast is also being considered. Revenue from these events goes to new department equipment purchases.
