September, 2017 School News – by Steve Poe, Superintendent
In preparation for a new school year, the summer months gave us an opportunity to do some “spring cleaning” and maintenance at the school. The following is a list of some of the tasks we completed over the summer: repaired/replaced a broken drainage pipe; re-routed some internet lines; power-washed the building; cleaned all windows; painted stairways to locker rooms and gym hallway; installed a water dispenser in gym hallway; repaired some lockers; replaced stained ceiling tiles, waxed all tile floors, cleaned all carpets, and installed a door leading into the art room.
This year’s motto is, “Explore, Dream, Discover.” The individual attention our students receive is second to none. From our gifted/talented program to our Panther Pride program, from college course offerings to summer school intervention, Put-in-Bay School strives to meet the needs of each student. Our students are able to participate in community theater, sports, clubs, and activities. We are very fortunate to have so many opportunities for a school our size. This is a credit to our supportive local businesses and to community involvement.
Congratulations to Macy Ladd for winning the “Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest” at the Ohio State Fair. Macy’s entry was selected on it’s originality, quality, and meaning. Congratulations also goes out to fellow seventh grader, Alice Lentz. Alice participated in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Camp this summer. She is very excited about pursuing a career in one of these fields after learning of all the possibilities.
Parents are encouraged to attend the Put-in-Bay School Open House on Wednesday, September 6 from 3:15 to 4:30. This is an opportunity to meet the teachers and hear about the academic goals for the year. Refreshments will be provided, along with free babysitting.
