Strong, gusty winds pummeled the eastern shore of South Bass Island as the Spring Equinox hailed a new season at 12:15pm.  The March equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from south to north and vice versa in September.  At noon, the lighthouse weather station reported:

Wind Direction: NE (50°)     Wind Speed: 21.0 knots     Wind Gust: 29.0 knots

Atmospheric Pressure: 29.83 in (1010.3 mb)     Air Temperature: 32.7°F (0.4°C)
