Put-in-Bay, Ohio, has been once again named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, in honor of its commitment to the goals and principles of the Arbor Day Foundation. Put-in-Bay achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Put-in-Bay‘s Arbor Day Celebration will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018. The Council of the Village of Put-in-Bay has allocated funds for Arbor Day expenses. On Arbor Day, two bur oak trees will be planted in the Village Park. A bur oak is a hardy choice for island’s rocky, shoreline soil. Also on that day, a third tree, a chinkapin oak, will be planted in DeRivera Park by the Put-in-Bay Garden Club in memory of Danny French. Members of the Village of Put-in-Bay Tree Commission are Lisa Brohl, Kelly Faris, and Kendra Koehler.
The Arbor Day Foundation is a million-member nonprofit conservation and education organization whose mission is to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. Information is available at arborday.org.
