Put in BayPut-in-Bay School News – by Steve Poe, Superintendent

Academics

Seventy-seven children in grades pre-kindergarten through grade twelve started the 2018-19 school year.  We wish a warm welcome to one new student, eighth grader Alec Sharp.

On September 5 many of our parents came to our annual Open House to listen to our teachers speak about their goals for the school year.  We look forward to working together to help our students achieve academic success.  The end of the first grading period is October 26, and parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, November 7 from 3:30pm – 6:30pm and Wednesday, November 14 from 3:30pm – 6:30pm.

The Put-In-Bay High School Quiz Bowl team hosted the first game of their season on Tuesday morning, September 18. Put-In-Bay defeated Old Fort and Mohawk, but lost to Fremont St. Joseph. The Seneca/Wyandot/Put-in-Bay/ Sandusky High School Quiz Bowl League includes the following schools: Buckeye Central, Calvert, Carey, Clyde, Columbian, Fostoria, Fremont Ross, Hopewell-Loudon, Mohawk, New Riegel, Old Fort, Put-In-Bay, Riverdale, Seneca East, St. Joseph Central Catholic, and Upper Sandusky.  Our team includes senior Max Schneider; juniors Joe Byrnes and Alexandra Knauer; sophomores Nora Ladd, Elena Schroeder, and Lucy Schneider; and ninth graders Kate Byrnes and Max Hristovski.  Players meet every Tuesday and Thursday, late August through December, during lunch to practice on strategy, speed and accuracy. Good luck Quiz Bowl Panthers !

Coached by Adam and Johnna Danes, the Panther team includes captain Macy Ladd, freshman Max Hristovski, and middle school runners McKenna Stacy, Joseph Blumensaadt, Ella Kostura, April Baca-Regalado, and Elora Hubner. During the Miller Boat Line 5k, we had four runners and a coach place in their respective groups: Max Hristovski (1st), Macy Ladd (2nd), Elora Huber (3rd), Joe Blumensaadt (3rd), and coach Adam Danes (2nd).

Put-in-Bay Panther Volleyball started its season in late August and is coming to an end.  The girls had a 5-3 record as of September 20 and three games remaining. This year’s team features Lauren Peter, Hannah Lentz, Zoe Zura, Elena Schroeder, Nora Ladd, Lucy Schneider, and Kate Byrnes.  The team has worked hard to improve their skill and look to end the season strong! Go Panthers!
