West-Southwest wind, clocked at 58.6mph at South Bass Island Lighthouse at 2pm, moves the earth under our feet and blows the ice away! A high wind warning remains in effect until 1am Monday morning. Overnight temperature will drop from the mid-thirties to the teens tonight.
The West Shore of South Bass Island witnesses a giant field of undulating ice, but the south and east sides reveal wild channels of five-foot waves and humongous ice blocks swiftly flowing downstream. As of this writing, no power outage. A few ice shanties have toppled over and several trees lost some limbs overnight. Below-freezing temperatures and a chance of snow are in the long-range forecast.
