Dynamic weather systems bring amazing changes to Lake Erie. Open water between the east side of South Bass Island and Kelleys Island seems to promise the arrival of spring. However, a good look westward shows a healthy ice-fishing environment. The ice measures 10-inches and the water below, according to reliable sources, is not murky near Rattlesnake Island.
