Above-freezing temperatures and strong wind gusts break ice and create ice floes on Lake Erie. As reported nationally yesterday, US Coast Guard and
local first-responders, including Put-in-Bay Volunteer Fire Department members, assisted over 100 people escape from the ice near Catawba Island State Park. A 10-mile perimeter tour of South Bass Island this morning reveals varying ice conditions–all of them quite fragile. No shanties on the ice near Put-in-Bay. A high wind advisory is in place until 4pm. Tonight and tomorrow will be cloudy, breezy, and cold.
