Put-in-Bay Mayor Updates COVID-19 Statement

Put in Bay VillageVillage of Put-in-Bay, Mayor Jessica C. Dress

Dear residents of Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island,

It is imperative that we all continue to adapt the state and national health guidelines, published and updated daily, to keep our entire population safe from the COVID-19 risks.

This means, as mayor, in accordance and cooperation with the Put-in-Bay Township Trustees, I URGE all islanders, cottagers and non-essential workers to follow the “stay-at-home” order issued by the Ohio Department of Health and Gov. Mike DeWine.

Many islanders have returned in the past weeks from vacation or their winter homes. Many cottagers and summer workers are seeking refuge here. IF YOU HAVE TRAVELED or spent any SIGNIFICANT amount of time ANYWHERE but PUT-IN-BAY, it is imperative to practice a 14-day self quarantine for the health and safety of our entire population.

Unnecessary visits to the few essential businesses here that have remained open PUT US ALL AT RISK. We cannot control the virus. We can control how we react to it.

Now is the time to utilize the help of your friends and neighbors. In the spirit of public service, the Put-in-Bay Police Department is offering grocery and package pickup and delivery. All it takes is a phone call.

For the time being, all village facilities, including Town Hall, the utilities office, docks, bathhouse, and playground remain closed to the public.

The latest updates project that COVID-19 infections will peak in the State of Ohio in mid-May meaning the “stay-at-home” order scheduled through April 6 could certainly remain in effect past that date, in addition to the restrictions outlined by DeWine regarding travel bans and limited business operations.

If you must leave your home, you must observe 6-foot social distancing guidelines and best hand washing practices to protect yourself and others.

Communications between the village, township and local business are continuing daily in this ever-fluid situation. While we hope to resume our normal lives as soon as possible, we must all work together to minimize the impact this pandemic could have locally.

Stay safe. Stay healthy. Sincerely,  Mayor Jessica C. Dress
