Erie Islands Public Library closed its doors Sunday, 15 March 2020, in conjunction with the closure of the Put-in-Bay School. It will be closed at least through Sunday, May 3. The closure may be prolonged if Governor DeWine extends the “stay at home” order. Meanwhile, Bass Islands readers are left with book-sharing from personal libraries (with proper physical distancing), ordering books from on-line services such as Amazon or SCRIBD, and free Internet resources from Ida Rupp Library or Project Gutenberg.
Free electronic books (e-books) are the brainchild of Michael Hart, American author and founder of Project Gutenberg in 1971. The organization now offers over 60,000 free e-books in either epub or Kindle format. Voracious readers and those beginning to appreciate literature will be rewarded by reviewing on-line sources.
