Real Ice Arrives on Lake Erie

The long anticipated formation of lake ice arrived this Sunday in the Western Basin of Lake Erie.  Ice shoves along the shoreline create memorable scenes while thin sheet ice spreads to the far horizons.  Conditions are not safe for ice-fishing or treks to the mainland.  However, the views remind us how wonderfully dynamic our environment is.  The images below come from a mid-day tour around South Bass Island.  Click any image for the enlarged view!
