Hidden Gems Delight at Put-in-Bay

By Amanda Downey

“Hidden gems” lie in wait among the gift shops and iconic restaurants in the heart of Put-in-Bay.  Take a stroll through downtown Put-in-Bay and you will notice the unusual sighting of a Carousel.  However, it is where it should be:  right next to the Candy Shoppe–a place filled with delightful sweets and an atmosphere far outreaching anything available on-line or in big-box stores.

The Kimberly Carousel is an original Allen Hershell Carousel built in N. Tonawanda, New York, in 1917.  It’s one of only 100 carousels with wooden horses remaining in the USA.   Be sure to enjoy a lovely ride on this historic piece of Americana.

Afterwards, stop in The Candy Shoppe for a delicious chocolate strawberry or tasty fudge.  Perhaps something there will remind you of your childhood!  Maybe a youngster will create a new memory?  Like being on the carousel, little treats personalize one’s experience.
