Panther Volleyball Delivers Heroic Fight in Tournament

The Put-in-Bay Panther volleyball season ended vs. the Toledo Christian Eagles Thursday night at the sectional final of the OHSSA Tournament.  The 12th-seed Panthers took on the 5th-seed Eagles.

The Panthers started out of the gate very competitively, but the overall team strength and skill of TC proved to be too much.  The panthers lost 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-7).

The Panthers played point for point with the Eagles until about 9-9 in the first game.  After that moment the eagles found the weakness in the Panther defense and exploited it.  Coach Schuffenecker said of their opponent, “I knew we were playing the best team the program has ever competed against.  I am extremely proud of my team for fighting to the last point.”

With this loss, the historic volleyball season has come to an end with a final record of 10 wins and 7 losses.  The team was led by seniors Macy Ladd and Lilian Frederick.  These two girls, when the final season stats are compiled, will be at the top of the PiB record books.  Coach Shuffenecker is most proud that these two players maximized their potential, and in doing so the team’s.

The Panthers battled through multiple moments of adversity and persevered.  Macy and Lilian will leave a huge hole in the team, but they set a standard of excellence which will help the Put-in-Bay School program in the future.

Coach Shuffenecker said, “Thank you to everyone who supported the Panther volleyball team this year. Go Panthers–Get your Growl On!
