Emmanuel Christian spoils the home opener for the Lady Panthers with a 54-32 defeat of Put-in-Bay. After a long road trip to Beaver island, Michigan, Panthers returned home for the home opener with a 3-0 record and fresh off their fourth Great Lakes Island crown.
However, the team faced adversity even before a tough Warriors entered the Panther Pit.
The flu bug hit the girls team hard, forcing the team to cancel two practices. On Tuesday, Coach Schuffenecker wasn’t sure they would have enough healthy bodies to play today.
The team finally got healthy on Thursday to face their toughest opponent of the season. The Warriors were aggressive off the tip, and the Panthers struggled to match their pressure all game.
All things considered, Coach Schuffenecker is proud of his girls for fighting to the last minute–Lilian Frederick with 14 points and Ava Heineman with 10.
The panthers look to rebound on the road Thursday versus Fairport Harbor. That game will be played at home of the Cavs, the Rocket Mortgage Field House.
