Put-in-Bay School Spring Semester News Delivers Accolades

Put-in-Bay School School News – by Scott Mangas, Superintendent

Spring is upon us and our students are anxious to walk or ride their bikes to school again.  Please drive slowly and follow our drop-off / pick-up procedures to ensure the safety of our children.  We would like parents to please drop-off / pick-up along Catawba Avenue instead of occupying a parking space in the school parking lot.  Parking is limited and we would like to reserve spaces for patrons of our library.

The Board of Education and Put-in-Bay School staff would like to thank all the people in our community who volunteered their time or made contributions to various school events or activities this past year.  Our school could not function without the support of so many individuals.  Our sincere thanks will be expressed again next month when we host a community recognition luncheon.  The luncheon is scheduled for May 15th at noon in the school’s multi-purpose room, Thank you, island community!

Macy Ladd will be recognized at the annual Ottawa County Top Ten Banquet.  As this year’s honoree she selected Mr. Craig Schuffenecker, her social studies teacher, volleyball coach, and basketball coach as her ‘honored educator.’  Macy is our senior class Valedictorian and is the daughter of Chris and Heidi Ladd.

The 2023 Buckeye Girls State, Put-in-Bay High School junior class representative is Elora Hubner. Elora is the daughter of Kira Hubner.  Put-in-Bay School has a strong history of attendance for the Buckeye Girls State program. Junior girls interested in attending Buckeye Girls State submit an essay, then a committee selects representatives based upon those essays.  Buckeye Girls State is designed to educate Ohio’s young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship. Attendees learn about City, County and State Government.

We will also be represented at the Buckeye Boys State by Joseph Blumensaadt and Emil Michael.  Joseph is the son of Todd and Jen Blumensaadt.  Emil is the son of Simona and Nick Michael. Joseph and Emil will also be learning about city, county, and state governments. Congratulations Elora, Joseph, and Emil for representing Put-in-Bay School. Thank you to the American Legion, Post #542, Ed Hubner, Tom Cooper and Bernie Meyers for assisting in this opportunity for our students.

Tuesday, May 16, will be an enjoyable evening of the arts at Put-in-Bay School.  The art show will be presented before the Spring Concert which begins at 7:00 PM in the school gym.  The concert will feature students in grades K-8.

Mrs. Jody Amsden and her students have been working very hard in the art program this past school year.  There will be art work on display from Grades K-8, along with art from our high school students.  Please come early and join us in the multi-purpose room between 6:30 – 7:00 to view your student’s artwork.

The new part-time School Resource Officer (SRO), Adam Chellis, started on Monday April 17th.  This shared service with the village and the school will provide an extra layer of safety for our students.

Graduation is scheduled on Thursday, May 25th at 6:30pm at the Perry Monument.  This year’s keynote speaker will be 1991 Put-in-Bay School graduate Eric Engel.  We look forward to honoring ‘one of our own’ at this year’s graduation ceremony!
