In an August meeting held by the Put-in-Bay Property Owners Association, Put-in-Bay Airport Manager Roseann Kaiser reviewed plans for the demolition of the old Put-in-Bay Airport (3w2) terminal building and construction of a new one. This project will begin in the spring of 2024, with completion by fall 2024. A complete meeting video is available on the Property Association’s Web page.
A $1,900,000 award to Put-In-Bay Airport to help modernize airport infrastructure was granted by the Federal Aviation Administration in February of this year according to Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). The new, modern terminal facility will be an approximately 2,500 square feet, single-story building including a public area, baggage room, mechanical room, and two restrooms. The current terminal is over 55 years old and serves Griffing Airlines and Island Air Taxi, as well as private pilots, aviation tours (Ford Tri-Motor, helicopter, biplane), and LifeFlight Critical Care Transport.
Ms. Kaptur’s press release states, “This investment in the Put-In-Bay airport is transformative, and I’m proud to partner with our friends from the shores and islands to secure this significant federal investment. Residents of the islands will have access to badly needed modern infrastructure, and the security of a facility equipped for 21st century aviation needs.”
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding, which U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown helped write and pass, “will enhance safety and operations at the Put-in-Bay Airport and improve travel for area residents and businesses,” said Brown in March 2023.
