The island story walk, funded and maintained by Erie Islands Library at Dodge Woods, is a wonderful place to immerse oneself in peaceful woods and enjoy a good, simple tale. The current exhibit is about an old woman who swallows an assortment of oddities and has to sneeze. It is silly and entertaining, and it removes our thoughts from the serious side of life. After all, who eats leaves or pumpkins?
The story walk also delivers creative motivation; it fuels our inner desire to tell our own stories. Islanders are full of stories, many of which spring from the unique and wonderful setting we call home. Below are South Bass Island images captured on this bright November afternoon. Perhaps the brief prompts accompanying them propel you toward a creative exercise . . .
“Whose vines these are, I think I know . . .”
“Who prolongs their stay on the water?”
“In these woods I’d like to walk.”
“Are tables turned for icy days?”
