Put-in-Bay School Panthers hosted the Harvest Temple Crusaders in friendly basketball competition on Saturday.
Panther basketball starts season with varsity victory over Harvest Temple Christian! The JV squad lost 17-16 after a valiant effort.
The Panthers got their first opening-day victory in many years against a tough Crusader squad from Clyde. Coach Schuffenecker knew his team was improved as they returned the core of last year’s players and are getting to upper class status. The team got a big boost in the off-season with the hiring of assistant coaches Leah Goodwin and Elena Schroeder. Coach Schuffenecker said, “The ladies bring help and energy to the program, as well as new ideas and drills. It paid off today.”
The varsity squad jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead. The Crusaders showed toughness as they battled back and made it a one possession game late. Lear Cooks, who led the team with 22 points, iced the game with a late foul shot for a 56-52 win. Lukas Kostura chipped in 15 points! The Panthers’ next game is Monday, 27 November 2023, at BG Christian.
Put-in-Bay Twirlers gave a wonderful performance between the two games.
