1928 Ford Tri-Motor Returns to Put-in-Bay for Scenic Flights Over Lake Erie
Put-in-Bay’s skies will echo with the sound of aviation history this August as the Liberty Aviation Museum’s 1928 Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT returns to the island for a weekend of scenic flight experiences. Rides will take place Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Put-in-Bay Airport on South Bass Island.
Passengers can step aboard one of the first all-metal commercial airliners and enjoy a 15–20 minute flight with panoramic views of Lake Erie and the islands. Tickets are available now at libertyaviationmuseum.org for $99 per adult and $75 per child (17 and under). Walk-up tickets may be available on event days but are not guaranteed.
The Ford Tri-Motor, affectionately called the “Tin Goose,” was first produced in the late 1920s and helped launch the commercial aviation industry. Its distinctive design and roaring radial engines make it a bucket list experience for aviation enthusiasts and casual travelers alike.
The aircraft’s return to Put-in-Bay is made possible by the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, whose mission includes preserving and sharing historic aircraft through community outreach and flight experiences.
Flights depart directly from the Put-in-Bay Airport, just a short golf cart ride from downtown. This event is open to all ages, though seating is limited and early reservations are encouraged.
