White Spider Night: A Put-in-Bay Tradition

Labor Day at Put-in-Bay has long been known as “White Spider Night.” The tradition began in the 1960s, when island bars would wind down the summer by blending together whatever clear liquors remained to create a potent, mint-forward concoction called the White Spider. The drink “bites,” but it became part of the island’s seasonal send-off.

Today, White Spider Night is less about the drink itself and more about gathering. Locals and visitors alike meet at the Miller Ferry dock to wave off the last boat of the busy season before heading to the Round House Bar and other island spots to celebrate the close of another summer.

Plenty more entertainment can be found across the island all weekend. For the complete live music schedule, visit our Put-in-Bay Live Music page.
