Barbershop Harmony Returns: Middle Bass Barbershoppers Celebrate 76 Years of Song

The sweet sound of four-part harmony is returning to the Bass Islands this August as the Middle Bass Barbershoppers celebrate an incredible 76 years of island tradition. With free performances across Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island, the long-standing group will again bring classic barbershop music and island goodwill to locals and visitors alike.

Friday, August 8 – Put-in-Bay Yacht Club at 7PM

The first performance takes place on Friday, August 8 at 7 PM at the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club. Once held on the steps of Perry’s Monument, the Friday show continues a beloved tradition of barbershop music on South Bass Island. This year’s venue offers air conditioning, waterfront views, and public access, with dinner and non-alcoholic beverages available for non-members. Arrive early—seating is limited and the event happens rain or shine.

Saturday, August 9 – Lonz Mansion, Middle Bass Island at 1:30PM

On Saturday, the singers cross the harbor to Middle Bass Island, performing at 1:30 PM on the front porch of the historic Lonz Mansion. This outdoor venue provides a scenic, relaxed setting. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, though some seating is provided. Nearby, Island Grind Coffee & Wine Bar will offer drinks and sandwiches for sale, and tours of the newly renovated mansion will be available from noon to 3 PM.

Saturday, August 9 – Middle Bass Town Hall at 7PM

The final performance takes place Saturday evening at 7 PM at the Middle Bass Town Hall, marking the group’s 76th annual concert at the venue. This long-standing event supports the Middle Bass Fire Department, and attendees can enjoy the comfort of air conditioning—a result of community fundraising and generous donations from longtime supporter Dave Slife and Slife Heating & Air.

As always, performances are free and open to the public, but free-will offerings will be accepted to benefit three island organizations:

  • Lake Erie Islands Conservancy

  • Wildlife Museum

  • Middle Bass Fire Department

The Middle Bass Barbershoppers continue to harmonize in more ways than one—bringing music, memories, and meaningful contributions to the islands they’ve serenaded for over seven decades.
