Spotlight on Keegan Turner: Put-in-Bay’s Finalist for Ohio Bartender of the Year

When the Ohio Restaurant & Hospitality Alliance announced its 2025 Industry Awards nominees, two familiar names from Put-in-Bay landed on the list. Among them is Keegan Turner of Red Moon, who is in the running for Ohio Bartender of the Year.

Now finishing up his second season bartending at Put-in-Bay, Keegan has quickly built a reputation for creativity, connection, and memorable service.

“I worked closely with multiple bartenders in my hospitality career, and I realized the depth of connection with guests was greater behind the bar,” Keegan said. “On top of that, the financial difference made it clear this was the path I wanted to take.”

Crafting Island Cocktails

Keegan’s passion for mixology shows in his seasonal creations. One recent favorite is his spicy garlic crisp oil and jalapeño fat-washed margarita — a bold twist available at Red Moon known simply as the “Spicy Margarita.”

“Being able to create an elevated and open cocktail experience on an island in Ohio is something I’m really proud of,” he said.

Pride, Community, and Memories

When asked about his favorite memory so far, Keegan recalled the Pride Show at the Round House Bar on June 9th this year. “That night really stood out to me,” he said.

For Keegan, the nomination itself carries special meaning. “Just the title and the thought of people enjoying my hospitality experience means I’ve created the world I set out to create seven years ago when I started my service industry career.”

Gratitude for the Island

“Thank you to all my fellow service friends, and new family I’ve made working on the island, and all the people I’ve served across multiple states and Cleveland,” he added.

How to Vote

Public voting for Ohio Bartender of the Year is open now through the ORHA website: eatdrinkohio.org/awards. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Columbus this December.

For Put-in-Bay, it’s a chance to celebrate and support one of its own as Keegan competes on the statewide stage.
