AmeriCorps Internship Available at Put-in-Bay

An AmeriCorps internship, co-sponsored by the Lake Erie Islands Conservancy and Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center, is available through a partnership with Appalachian Conservation Corp for the summer of 2023.

Kenneth McArtor, working at Duff Woods Preserve, was our 2022 AmeriCorps Intern. The Conservancy and Wildlife Center have had great experiences with our interns who bring new ideas and fresh faces to our summer programs.

The AmeriCorps Environmental Steward Internship for the summer of 2023 is a ten week program working a minimum of thirty hours per week. Interns are provided a stipend of $354 weekly and a Segal Educational Award of $1,459.26 at the completion of the internship.  The award is for qualified student loans or tuition.

The intern will work on projects like trail maintenance, invasive plant management, grant writing, design of signs and brochures, social media, wildlife and plant surveys, and nest box monitoring for the Conservancy and the Park District, depending on the skill set of the intern.  For the LEINWC, the intern can assist with tours, Wild Tuesday, Nature Camp, exhibits, community events and outreach.

Applicants must be at least seventeen years old and preference is given to university students, but a high school education is all that is required to use the education award.
