Put in BayAugust 2023
Put-in-Bay School News – by Scott Mangas, Superintendent

Where did the Summer go? That is a question that many students are asking, as well as parents and teachers. It is the end of August and schools are in full swing. Put-in-Bay School is ready to go and the first day for students is August 30th.

Coach Craig Schuffenecker began his regular volleyball practices the first week of August. This year Coach Schuffenecker will have three seniors leading the way with El Kostura, Elora Hubner and Lyla Steidl. The rest of the team will consist of Juniors: Lily Schwietzer and Ava Heineman, Freshmen: Emma Michael and Olivia Christensen and Junior High: Kate Hubner to round out the team. The volleyball schedule will be posted on our school website at www.put-in-bay.k12.oh.us Come cheer on the volleyball team! The gym floor was sanded and re-sealed this summer and it is ready for action.

Coach Adam Danes will be leading our junior high and high school cross country teams. They also began practice in early August. We have some outstanding distance runners and look forward to a successful season. Leading the pack are Juniors: Jacob Seaman, Geoffrey Luecke, Ava Heineman, and Richard Scarpelli, Sophomores: Cody Kowalski and Lukas Kostura, Freshmen: Lear Cooks and Brennen Jones, and Junior High: Kate Hubner and Cody Kowalski. All their meets are on the mainland except for the Miller Boat Line 5K on September 16th. Go Panthers!

Put-in-Bay School will have a new four-legged friend to greet all of the students this year. A therapy dog, named Bailey, will be a new addition to the school this year. Bailey is a black lab who is going through training with her handler Mrs. Warnicke. We would all like to thank the school board for bringing Bailey to Put-in-Bay School.

We will also start the school year with Erin Urge as a long-term substitute teacher for Mrs. Jackie Kowalski, and CC Wisniewski will be part-time substitute/ intervention support staff for the 2023-24 school year.

We look forward to seeing students in the building again on August 30. We would like parents to adhere to the following guidelines when dropping off and/or picking up their children:

–No parking/waiting on the sidewalk (ball field side of Concord).
–No parking behind the cars in the parking lot.
–No parking across the street on Catawba (heading to State Park).
–All drop-offs and pick-ups will take place along Catawba Ave. heading into town. For students walking or riding their bikes to school, the corner of Concord and Catawba will be monitored by crossing guards, school faculty and/or local police to ensure a safe crossing.
