Extraordinary Success Stories Thrive for Students at Put-in-Bay School

Put-in-Bay School News, by Scott Mangas, Superintendent

We have had a very busy winter here at Put-in-Bay School.  We have hosted home basketball games every weekend from January 7th to February 11th.  Our Panther athletes have represented us well.

We were very fortunate to have some halftime shows as well during our games.  The mini-Cheer camp put on a show on February 4th.  Mrs. Fiorilli, Miss Pugh and the high school cheerleaders worked very hard with our mini cheer team to put on an excellent show.

Jacob SeamanJacob Seaman also performed during our February 4th games.  We also had a varsity cheer show at the January 28th game in which the cheer team took on the Avengers and gave all of us an amazing show.

We also had our Science fair and Science Olympiad in February.  On February 3rd we had our science fair projects on display in the gym.  They were judged and awards were given at the end of the day.

This was followed up by our Science Olympiad which had several activities including: Bridge crusher, egg drop, Nerd words, Engineering design challenge, escape room, hungry hippos, powerful points, Kahoot, Mystery Event and Fly right.

Over the past two months, Miss Pugh’s 4th and 5th grade students have been participating in a project titled, “Spread The Love Around The World.” The goal of this project was to receive mail from as many different places around the world to help students learn about the United States and other places around the world. We put a pin on the maps in our school hallway for each location we received mail from.

spread the loveThe students loved this project and it was great to see how many people care enough to send a card, even people we may not know. This goes to show that a simple gesture can go a long way. We received letters, postcards, and more from 29 different states and 21 different countries including at least one piece of mail from each of the seven continents. Thank you to the island community and friends of the island community for reaching out to friends and family members near and far. Your support with this project has been incredible and very appreciated.

A big thanks goes out to the school staff who put on these events for our students.  The February 3rd day was topped off with a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support ) activity which had the Panther families making Valentine cards for area nursing homes.
