Islanders Share Exuberance of Trans-Siberian Train Tour

A long-standing joke between good friends turned into a reality in late August and September of this year:  Sharon Duggan and George Stoiber finally completed a tour of Russia by train.  On Friday night, in front of a packed Senior Center, the travelers shared a 100-photo slide show and live commentary.  Visiting the orphanages from which her grandchildren came to the United States was of special importance to Ms. Duggan.  For Mr. Stoiber, the tour highlight was visiting the Church on Blood in Honor of All Saints where Czar Nicholas II and members of his family were assassinated by Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War.  Color maps, tour books, and unique treasures were on display.  A second, hour-long presentation is planned for the summer of 2015.
