The Ohio Department of Natural Resources presented information pertinent to their involvement at the three Bass Islands (North, Middle, South) and Kelleys Island. The presentation, given at the Marblehead Lighthouse today, was made mostly by ODNR Director James Zehringer, with parts by several of his associates and by Julene Market of the Miller Boat Line.

South Bass Island: The number of electrical hookups will be increased significantly.
Middle Bass Island: So far this year the work on Middle Bass has been removing asbestos from the Lonz estate house and press house, as well as shoring and replacing unstable parts, and initiating restoration of those buildings. Water and sewer will also be connected to those buildings and the Lonz Winery. A pavilion is being built on the top of the hill beside the winery. visitors will be able to use it as a waiting area for the Middle Bass Ferry. For the next two years, starting 1 July 2014, $6 million has been allocated for the winery itself. Whether it will become a winery and/or restaurant is still unclear, but the promise is that it will become at least one of those. ODNR will return the winery to its heritage and make it a destination for entertainment and one that families will enjoy. Julene Market, from Miller Boat Line, also spoke briefly and emphasized the Lonz Winery is iconic to the area. She pointed out that the original settlers were all drawn to the island because of opportunities for fishing, agriculture and grape growing.
North Bass Island: The North Bass Island State Park will remain primitive. It will be open for kayak and canoe lovers. There will be mooring balls for the primitive campground.
Kelleys Island: The number of electrical hookups will be increased.
