Put-in-Bay School Announces Recipients of Honors and Accomplishments
On April 9th Zoltan Urge, senior at Put-in-Bay High School, was awarded the Franklin B. Walter Award. The award recognizes the outstanding achievements of one outstanding senior in each of the eighty-eight Ohio counties. Zoltan intends to major in astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

On April 10th, the Put-in-Bay High School Quiz Bowl Team (L-R: Elliot Kowalski; Meredith Engel; Sophia Schroeder; Host: Marc Hathaway; Anna Rence; Zoltan Urge; Carter Pugh) advanced to the ‘Final Four’ of the WBGU-TV “Brain Game” Show, knocking out Celina High School by a score of 220 – 160. Put-in-Bay had defeated Leipsic High School and The Islamic School of Greater Toledo earlier in the thirty-two team tournament and will now match wits against the winner of Heritage Christian and Toledo Christian on May 1st.
On April 10th, the Put-in-Bay High School Earth Science Class was awarded the Second Place Trophy at the “SATELLITES” (Students And Teachers Exploring Local Landscapes to Interpret The Earth from Space) Technology Conference held at Penta Career Center. Science teacher Paul Genzman and his students collected data from island cave exploration, using a variety of instruments, and presented their findings to a panel of judges from the University of Toledo. They received 98 out of a possible 100 points for a ‘Superior’ rating.
