GRADUATION
This year’s graduation ceremony will be held at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on Friday, June 6th at 7:00 pm. Addressing this year’s graduating class will be Ms. Jennifer Robison Norris. Jennifer is a 1989 graduate of Put-in-Bay High School. She is Vice-President and Associate General Counsel at Supply Chain Services-Pharmaceutical at Cardinal Health, Inc. in Dublin, Ohio. After leaving Put-in-Bay Jennifer attended Miami University for her undergraduate work before graduating in the top ten percent of her class at the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University. Ms. Norris brings a wealth of knowledge to the podium and our graduates look forward to welcoming her back to the island she once called ‘home.’ Here is the “Class of 2014” and their future plans:
Casey Pippert-Ladd “I am planning to attend The Ohio State University and major in marine zoology. I am also looking to join the Navy through OSU’s ROTC program. I hope to fly F/A-18 Hornets for the Navy after college. Serving my country and flying for the Navy has been my dream since I have been little. ‘Non sibi sed patriae’”
Madeline Pugh “I plan to attend Bowling Green State University this fall. I have always enjoyed helping others and working with children. Therefore, I intend to double major in speech pathology and early childhood education. My dream is to go to work everyday knowing I am changing lives for the better. I look forward to college and new opportunities!”
Arthur Wolf “While looking at options for future education, I decided to enlist in the United States Air Force and pursue a career as an aircraft loadmaster. This job interests me because I will get to travel and see the world. Aim High!”
Zoltan Urge “In high school I acquired an interest in math, physics, and astronomy. Because of this, I am going to school at the University of California, Santa Barbara to study astrophysics. I will pursue a career with a private company so I can help expand this fledgling field.”
Cody Porche “I plan to attend Kent State University in the fall and major in nursing or early childhood education. These are careers that will give me a chance to make a difference in someone’s life.”
Anna Rence “This fall I will be attending the University of Cincinnati. I plan to major in architecture and minor in engineering. These fields of study have interested me since a very young age; I have my dad to thank for that. I hope to use my career to promote ‘green’ projects in the field of architecture. I am an advocate for going green!”
Victoria Wertenbach “For the next four years I plan to attend Kent State University to earn a degree in visual communication and design. I have always had a passion for creating things and that is why I chose on art-based major. After earning my degree I plan on becoming a graphic designer.”

Twenty-one students in grades K – 6 raised $1,939 for cancer research by participating in a “Math-a-thon.” They completed a challenging math booklet and asked sponsors to support their efforts with a donation. We would like to thank those who donated to this excellent cause. The money raised benefits St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Lucas Kostura and Joe Blumensaadt solicited the most donations. Congratulations to everyone who participated!
OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
On behalf of Put-in-Bay School, we offer our condolences to the family of Helen Sinram and wish to thank those who made a memorial donation to the school. All money received will be forwarded to the Put-in-Bay Library, as Helen was an elementary school librarian in the mid 70’s. She will be missed by everyone who came to know her.
Parents are reminded that Thursday, June 5th is the last day of school with a 12:30 early dismissal. The elementary students will be participating in a ‘field day’ filled with fun and games on this day. Lunch will be provided.
