Three-Way-Stop Intersection Warrants Caution

Township Notice

The new, three-way-stop intersection at Catawba Avenue and Meechen Road will necessitate extra caution for island drivers accustomed to making a left turn from Catawba onto Meechen without hesitation.  The traffic control change, announced mid-March 2024, is now in effect.

The intersection is hazardous because it sits atop a hill with limited visibility.  Coming from South Bass Island State Park one might not see Meechen Road traffic until cresting the hill right at the stop sign.  And coming from Town along Catawba now requires a full stop and yielding to traffic already in the intersection.  Trees and assorted signage might interfere with clear sight-lines as one comes from Meechen Road.

Go slowly and remember to stop!
