GoFundMe Launched for Put-in-Bay Boat Fire Victim Jon Danklefsen
A fundraiser has been launched to support Jon Danklefsen, who was critically injured in the boat explosion and fire that occurred at the Put-in-Bay fuel dock on August 9.
Danklefsen, who had just finished fueling when the vessel exploded, suffered second-degree burns covering nearly 45% of his body. He managed to escape the flames by jumping into the water but was airlifted from the island and remains in intensive care.
His daughter, Myah Danklefsen, shared that the accident has left her father unable to work while facing significant medical expenses. “He has 5 children and a wife that he has always supported, mainly through his business that he can now not work because of the incident. We are looking for help for medical bills,” she wrote on the fundraising page.
The explosion destroyed two boats and sent heavy smoke across the harbor, drawing a swift response from the Put-in-Bay Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, EMS, and local boaters.
