6v6 Soccer Tournament Celebrates 20 Years at Put-in-Bay
Put-in-Bay’s summer calendar is packed with traditions, but few have grown the way the 6v6 Soccer Tournament has. Now celebrating its 20th year, the adult-only tournament returns this weekend—Saturday and Sunday—with a record 75 teams competing across multiple divisions.
What began in 2005 with just 12 teams has become a staple of the island’s second weekend in July. Matches are held on McCann’s Field and neighboring Bay Club Cottages property, with as many as seven games happening simultaneously. Divisions include men’s, women’s, and co-ed, with teams coming in from across the region to compete.
Behind the scenes, organizers Gene DeWeese and Doug Coffey have grown the event year after year. DeWeese also serves as a girls varsity soccer coach at Jonathan Alder High School, bringing decades of experience to the tournament’s operations.
Spectators are welcome to stop by and catch the action throughout the weekend. For more information or to get involved in future years, visit 6v6soccer.com or email admin@6v6soccer.com.
