The Put-in-Bay Panthers volleyball season is in full swing with a young and hardworking team. While the record currently stands at 1 win and 6 losses, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Three of those losses came in tightly contested five-set matches, and the players are showing steady improvement each week.
This year’s squad is led by returning players Juniors Olivia Christensen, Emma Michael, and Juliana Scarpelli; Sophomores Kate Hubner and Katie Scarpelli; and 8th grader Meredith Cooper. The Panthers also welcomed five new 7th grade athletes who are learning the sport and bringing energy to the roster.
“After having to replace two key graduated seniors, the team is really starting to round the corner,” said Head Coach Craig Schuffenecker. “We look to hit our stride as we start our final home stretch.”
The season also marked a major milestone for Coach Schuffenecker, who coached in his 500th total game for Put-in-Bay Schools during the matchup against the Toledo Hornets on September 4. In addition to volleyball, Coach Schuffenecker also leads the girls and boys high school basketball teams and the junior high basketball team.
“I’d like to thank all the athletes I’ve coached for making this possible,” Schuffenecker added.
The future looks bright for Panther Volleyball as the team continues to grow, compete, and build for the seasons ahead.
