Put-in-Bay Sports Car Races Return September 16–18, 2025
Put-in-Bay will once again echo with the sounds of vintage sports cars as the 2025 Put-in-Bay Sports Car Races come to South Bass Island, September 16–18. What began as a small reunion in 2009 has grown into one of the Midwest’s most distinctive vintage racing events, drawing drivers and enthusiasts from across the country.
This year’s event highlights include two special features:
-
Elva 70th Anniversary – Celebrating the British marque founded in 1955, a frequent winner in the island’s original road races of the late 1950s.
-
Mini vs. Spridget Challenge – A head-to-head showdown between Austin Minis and Austin Healey Sprites/MG Midgets.
Racing will take place on a 1.2-mile hay-bale-lined circuit at the Put-in-Bay Airport, where precise braking and nimble handling are rewarded. The event welcomes pre-1991 production sports cars and sedans up to 3.0 liters, vintage open-wheel cars, and other eligible entries. Exhibition and non-racing entrants also have opportunities to participate.
Beyond the races, the event offers a variety of activities that celebrate the spirit of mid-century motorsport, including:
-
An all-entrant car show
-
Police-escorted laps of the original 1950s road course
-
Touring laps of the airport circuit for non-racers
-
The popular Rocker Cover Races at The Goat Soup & Whiskey
-
Social gatherings, including a wine and cheese reception at Heineman’s Winery and a non-racers luncheon
New this year, enthusiasts can also enjoy a fellowship gathering at the “After the Flag Party” hosted at Joe’s Bar, scheduled for Thursday evening at 7 p.m. following the final day of racing.
Spectators and participants are encouraged to join in the vintage spirit by wearing period-inspired attire. The relaxed atmosphere and “competitive but respectful” racing environment have made the Put-in-Bay Sports Car Races a favorite among drivers and fans alike.
