
PERRY’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Saturday, August 24, 2019 – Sunday, August 25, 2019
Join the celebration of the 234th anniversary of Oliver Hazard Perry’s birth on August 23, 1785, as well as the 200th anniversary of his death at on August 23, 1819. Listen to the Hero of Lake Erie as he discusses his life from the time he became a midshipman at age 13 to his victory over the British in the Battle of Lake Erie at age 28. Historic firearms demonstrations take place at 11am, 3pm and 5 pm. Carronade demonstrations start at noon, 2pma nd 4 pm. At 1pm there is a Junior Ranger program entitled, “Join Perry’s Navy.” Sunday, August 25, is the 103 Anniversary of the National Park Service. It is a Fee-Free Day at the Memorial Column.

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial celebrates the 103rd Anniversary of the National Park Service. Visitors can ride the elevator to the 317-foot Observation Deck for a spectacular view of the Lake Erie Islands for free. Children can visit the “See Yourself as a Park Ranger” display; they can try on a variety of ranger uniforms and learn about different jobs park rangers can choose from.
