Round House Bar, Put-in-Bay, is South Bass Island’s iconic establishment!
In a well-planned and beautifully executed 150th birthday celebration, owners Michael and Anita McCann welcomed long-standing patrons and the Bass Islands Community to a marvelous extravaganza on Sunday afternoon. From the opening, big-screen slideshow to Bob Gatewood’s closing performance of his legendary song, “Friends of the Bay,” the day’s festivities captured the resounding spirit of good times at Put-in-Bay.
Ty Winchester did superbly as the day’s emcee; Paula Garsteck, RHB manager, and the Round House Red Shirts staff did an outstanding job in creating a pleasant and smoothly-flowing operation. Mack McCann and MaryAnn McCann, the original owners of the family-owned and operated business, shared moving moments of their early days at the Round House. Several patrons added to the historical context by sharing their first experiences at the famous bar.
Banners, buttons, balloons, champagne, cakes, popcorn, choice libations, and exceptional music by Ray Fogg, Paul Franks, Mad Dog, Brad Johnson, Reese Daily, AJ Band, and Bob Gatewood all generated a joyful and unforgettable red-letter day. In special homage to island tradition, everyone gathered for a “Mossback Photo” in front of the Round House.
