Bob Gatewood to Perform “Friends of the Bay” at Bash on the Bay 2025

Local music legend Bob Gatewood will take the stage at Bash on the Bay 2025 on Wednesday, August 13, performing his iconic island anthem “Friends of the Bay” ahead of country stars Parmalee and headliner Luke Bryan. Gatewood shared on social media that the performance will likely follow Texas country band Kin Faux, though the exact set time has not yet been confirmed.

From Cleveland Flats to Island Favorite

Gatewood has been a fixture in the Northeast Ohio music scene for more than three decades. He first gained prominence with his band Calabash, a group that blended reggae, rock, and island influences and was once called “the most-booked band on South Bass Island.” Over the years, Gatewood’s performances have become a staple of island entertainment, drawing both locals and visitors to sing along.

The Story Behind “Friends of the Bay”

Released in 1992, “Friends of the Bay” quickly became a signature song for Put-in-Bay. Known for its upbeat melody and lyrics that celebrate the island’s beauty and community spirit, the track has been featured in commercials and remains a favorite among fans. When Gatewood closes a show with it, crowds often sway together, hug, and belt out the lyrics—whether they’re lifelong islanders or first-time visitors.

Bash on the Bay Day 1 Lineup

Day 1 of Bash on the Bay will feature performances by Kin Faux, Parmalee—who joined the lineup as a last-minute replacement for Ashley McBryde—and Luke Bryan, with Gatewood’s special appearance bringing a local touch to the nationally known event. The two-day music festival, held at the Put-in-Bay Airport, draws thousands of fans each year for live music in a one-of-a-kind island setting.
