Smirnoff Ice Bringing Two Guinness World Records™ Attempts to Put-in-Bay on Aug. 1
One of the world’s most recognizable beverage brands is bringing a record-breaking celebration to Put-in-Bay this summer, giving island visitors the opportunity to become part of Guinness World Records™ history.
Smirnoff Ice announced today, National Hot Dog Day, that Put-in-Bay will host two official Guinness World Records attempts on Saturday, Aug. 1, as part of the brand’s nationwide “Be A Part-y of History” campaign celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
The event will challenge participants to set two new Guinness World Records while enjoying one of the island’s biggest weekends of the summer.
Two Guinness World Records Will Be Attempted
According to Smirnoff Ice, organizers will attempt to set records for:
-
-

More than 250 uniquely topped hot dogs will be arranged into a display spanning over 1,000 square feet before being unveiled during the event. Once the display is revealed, organizers hope to bring together 250 or more participants to enjoy complimentary hot dogs together in an attempt to earn the second Guinness World Records title.
Rather than simply watching the event, visitors will have the opportunity to become part of the official record attempts themselves.
What Visitors Can Expect
The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at McCann Field in downtown Put-in-Bay near the Round House Bar. Participation is free for guests 21 and older, although advance registration is encouraged.
In addition to the official Guinness World Records attempts, attendees can expect:
- Complimentary hot dogs

Whether you’re hoping to help make history or simply enjoy one of the island’s newest summer events, organizers expect an afternoon built around food, entertainment and America’s 250th celebration.
Why the Announcement Came Today
The announcement coincides with National Hot Dog Day, a fitting launch for a campaign centered around one of America’s favorite summer foods.
The Put-in-Bay event serves as the centerpiece of Smirnoff Ice’s “Be A Part-y of History” campaign, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary by combining Red, White & Berry with an unmistakably American tradition—the summer cookout.
“America’s 250th is a rare cultural moment, and it’s bigger than one day,” said Fergus McCarthy, Director of Smirnoff Ice. “We wanted Smirnoff Ice to show up in a way that felt true to the brand: playful, a little unexpected and built for summer. Red, White & Berry already owns a place in summer celebrations, so pairing it with the hot dog lets us tap into an unmistakably American ritual and give fans a fun reason to keep the party going.”
Limited-Edition “Doggie Bag” Also Debuts
As part of the nationwide campaign, Smirnoff Ice is introducing a limited-edition Doggie Bag—a hot dog-shaped crossbody bag designed to carry a Smirnoff Ice beverage along with everyday essentials.
Beginning today, fans 21 and older can enter through @smirnoffusa (Instagram) for a chance to receive one while supplies last.
How to Participate in the World Record Attempt
Visitors interested in joining the Guinness World Records attempts are encouraged to register in advance.
The event begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, and is open to guests 21 years of age and older.
